Plant A Sequence

Let’s patch with Bloom!
This quick patch covers the main front panel features. For advanced options, visit the full manual on our site.
Tỷ lệ
- This control adjusts how fast your sequence is playing.
- The sequence gets faster as the knob is turned to the right, and you can stop the sequence by turning the knob fully to the left!
Bộ mã hóa bước
- Bloom has 8 clicked encoders for editing the steps of the trunk sequence.
- There are a few different “Tune Modes” that change what these encoders are editing, but for now we will keep it in the default Note editing mode!
Đầu ra
- Bloom’s 3 channel outputs are bunched up at the bottom of the module!
- For now we are focusing on the channel 1 out-puts (note 1, gate 1, and mod 1).
Patch to a sound source
- Let’s patch Bloom to a sound source!
- This can either be a complete voice, or a collection of modules that generate and shape sound, like an oscillator/filter/vca combo!
Once Bloom is patched to a sound source, patch the sound source to your audio output device (output module, audio interface, etc.)!
Turn up Rate
Let’s turn the Rate knob up so our sequence starts playing! Want to use an external clock? Just keep the knob down and patch your clock into Rate!

Edit the Trunk Sequence
- A melodic sequence sounds a lot better when it’s, well, melodic!
- Now that our sequence is advancing, let’s turn our step encoders to change the notes.
We can also “turn off” steps by pressing the step encoder button. This will add some simple rhythmic variation to our sequence.

Branching Out
We now have a simple 8-step sequence going on Bloom! Let’s look at a couple of quick ways to get variation on our sequence.
gốc rễ
Offset the root note of the sequence diatonically with this control!
Cài lại
- Reset does exactly what you think it does (reset the sequence to the first step)!
Fractal Variation
- Bloom uses fractal algorithms to create new variations, or “branches,” of your sequence. You can explore these branches by moving along a chosen “path.”
- Use the Mutate knob to apply step-by-step changes. The further you turn it, the more likely mutations will occur! Check the back of this guide for more variations using the Page button.
Transpose the sequence
- Let’s listen to our sequence in a different regis-ter!
- Turning up the Root knob will transpose the sequence diatonically. This means the sequence will stay in key regardless of its root position!

Reset the sequence
- Sometimes it’s nice to reset the sequence to the first step to sync Bloom with the rest of your patch.
- The aptly named Reset button is just for that! Reset will always jump back to the first step of the sequence after being pressed.

Adding branches to the sequence
- Right now we are working with 8 steps in our sequence, but Bloom can algorithmically expand the sequence with Branch and Path!
- Let’s add some branches to our trunk sequence.

- As the Branch knob is turned up, the step LEDs will light up indicating a new branch was add-ed to the sequence. Bloom will play branches sequentially after the trunk sequence!
- Bloom can generate up to 7 branches of the trunk sequence, which takes our 8 step se-quence up to 64 steps! If you were to use all 64 steps of the trunk sequence, you could generate a 512 step sequence with this one control!
Change the branch path
- Bloom is not limited to a single set of branches. Just like a tree, there are multiple paths from the trunk to reach the many leaves at its ends.
- Let’s turn up the Path knob to hear a different arrangement of Branches on Bloom.

The amount of available paths is dependent on how many branches are active. At max branches, there are 128 different paths you can take through them!
Mutate individual steps
- The third knob, Mutate, focuses on applying algorithmic changes to individual steps in the sequence.
- The more the knob is turned to the right, the higher percentage chance a change will hap-pen to the active sequence step!
Knob Mode: Turn a new leaf on variation.
- Bloom is not limited to the three algorithmic variations found on the front panel.
- The Knob Mode button cycles what aspects of the sequence are being tampered with by Bloom’s fractal algorithms. See the list below for a quick glance at the possible knob controls, and find more detailed explanations in the manual!
Chế độ mặc định
- Branch: Sets amount of branches
- Path: Determines path through branches
- Mutate: Sets percentage chance a note will change pitch, gate state and length
Micro Mutate Mode
- Branch: Mutates the Mod output
- Path: Randomly redraws the Path
- Mutate: Percentage Slew/Ratchet mutation!
Chế độ hiệu suất
- Branch: Sets random ratchet effects
- Path: Sets random slew effects
- Mutate: Applies ornamentation to notes
Digging In The Dirt
Now our sequence is blooming! Not to worry, there is more to discover with our fractal sequencer, so let’s dive in.
Gieo hạt lại
Dice roll your sequence for a fresh new take!
Tune Mode
This button changes what aspect of the step the encoders are editing. Right now we can change note pitch, but there is so much more to experi-ment with!
Chế độ điều chỉnh

Mod Out
- Some of the Tune Modes affect the Mod output for our channel. We’ll be patching it up soon!
Reseed the sequence
- Not liking a certain part of your sequence, or maybe want to start with a fresh new take?
- Reseed will take all aspects of your sequence and dice roll is to new values! Let’s press re-seed to get a whole new sequence.

Reseed the branches
- Bloom’s branches are generated, and now it can regenerate those branches whenever you’d like! Let’s turn up branches and regenerate them.
- Now that we’ve listened to our branch, hold the shift button and press reseed to hear a new branch variation of your trunk sequence!

Chế độ điều chỉnh
- Bloom’s step encoders edit more than just pitch.
- Let’s press the Tune Mode button to swap out of Pitch Mode and into Gate Length mode, indicated by a green LED!

- Turning the encoder to the right lengthens the gate signal, while turning to the left shortens the gate signal.
- This is helpful for dialing in the stages of an ADSR envelope per step!
Reseed Tune Modes
- Sometimes it can be tedious adjusting each step’s data. We get it.
- So we added a way to reseed Tune Modes! Hold the Tune Mode button while in the page to want to dice roll, and then press Reseed!
More Tune Modes!
Let’s try out the other tune modes! Press the Tune Mode button again to change to Slew Mode.

- Slew Mode adjusts the length of the glissando going into the affected step!
- The next Tune Mode is Ratchet Mode, indicated by a purple LED.
Each tick on the encoder adjusts the amount of gate ratchets within a step, from no ratchets to x32 ratchets within the step length!
Mod Out
- There’s a new output in town, and its name is Mod! Mod is a per-channel configurable output with its own Tune Mode.
- Let’s hit Tune Mode again to jump to Mod Mode (white LED this time)!

- The default Mod out is a per-step LFO shape builder. Perfect for patching up dynamic, ear candy modulation!
- Turn a Step encoder to cycle through the above LFO shapes for that step. Read in the manual how to create ratcheting variations of each step or subdivisions of the shape for quicker modulations!
- You can cycle through two other Mod outputs, Envelope and Stepped Voltage by holding Shift and pressing the Knob Mode button!
Reaping the Harvest
Our sequence is in full bloom now, but there is still more to discover! Let’s take a look at the last few front panel controls and expand our sequence further.
Kênh
- Bloom has three sequence channels, each with their own note, gate, and mod output, ready to patch its vines to the rest of your rack!
Sequence Page
- Press this button to edit additional 8 step sections of the sequence!
Macro Sequence Editors
- Each step encoder is paired with a shift function to further edit the trunk sequence!
- Lengthen the sequence up to 64 steps, change the scale or playback order, save and load sequences, and more!
Đầu ra MIDI
- A single TRS MIDI output for all three channel outputs!
Lengthen the trunk sequence
- Bloom can have up to 64 steps active for the trunk sequence, but we’ve only been working with 8. So how do we get more steps?
- Our first Macro Sequence Editor will help us! Let’s hold the shift button down, and at the same time turn the length encoder.

- As the encoder turns to the right, more steps are added to the trunk sequence. You can shorten the sequence by turning to the left!
- Let’s set our sequence to 16 steps. You notice that the first 8 steps will show up on the LEDs, but the next steps do not. What gives?
Edit a different page of the sequence
- Let’s press the page button to advance our sequence interface to the next set of 8 steps!
- We can now edit the next set of steps in the trunk sequence.

Set the sequence scale
- There are 8 available quantized scalings on Bloom!
- Hold shift and turn the scale encoder to select a scale. Here are the available scales from left to right on the sequence LEDs:
- Sắc độ
- Lớn lao
- Người vị thành niên
- Major Pent.
- Minor Pent.
- điều hòa nhỏ
- Toàn bộ giai điệu
- Không định lượng
Change the sequence order
- Sequences don’t only need to move forward. Let’s gain new perspective on our sequence by changing the playback direction.
- Hold the shift button and turn the order encoder to change the direction.

The sequence can either run:
- phía trước
- đảo ngược
- con lắc
- ngẫu nhiên
- and shuffle (randomly jumps pages)
Save, load, and copy sequences
- Bloom can hold up to 16 sequences and their data onboard!
- Hold the shift button and turn the pattern encoder to navigate the pattern menu.

- To save the current sequence, turn the encoder to a pattern slot, then hold the pattern encoder down for a few seconds. An LED animation will play once the sequence is saved!
- To load a sequence, select the pattern slot you want to load, then quickly click the Pattern encoder down. Bloom will load the pattern into the trunk sequence, including all branches and manipulations!
Set clock divisions/multiplications
- Each channel on Bloom can run at different ratios of the primary clock signal.
- Let’s try speeding up or slowing down our se-quence by holding the shift button and turning the ratio encoder!
The sequence ratio is relative to the Rate knob, which sets the internal clock rate.- You can use an external clock by patching into Rate, and turning the Rate knob all the way to the left!
Expand or shrink your sequence
Whether you want to grow or prune your sequence, Bloom is able to algorithmically resize your sequence. Let’s turn the resize encoder while holding shift!

- Bloom will take your existing sequence, and shrink or expand it in fixed ratios based on the length.
- You can change how Bloom fills the gaps using Narwhal!
Shift the sequence notes
Bloom can adjust the starting note of its sequence! Just hold the shift button and turn the rotate encoder to shift the sequence forwards or backwards.

Transpose the sequence
Alongside Root, Bloom has a destructive trans-pose control. This transposition is diatonic, and can be adjusted by holding shift and turning the transpose encoder!

Edit a new channel
- Now that we have a full run down of editing a sequence on Bloom, we can now apply our knowledge to two more channels!
- Press the channel button to edit Channel 2, and press it again to edit Channel 3!
Channel 2 (Green)
- Lưu ý 2
- Cổng 2
- Phiên bản 2
Channel 3 (Rose)
- Lưu ý 3
- Cổng 3
- Phiên bản 3
Sequence with MIDI
- Want to sequence something outside your modular system with Bloom? Now you can!
- Reference the table in the manual for a complete list of MIDI functionality on Bloom.

Bản vá lỗi Example: Self Patch

- Bloom is the perfect candidate for self patching, since CV and gate inputs apply to whichever channel is currently selected.
- Modulate Channel 1 in sequenced or random ways with channels 2 and 3s’ outputs!
Bản vá lỗi Example: Wubs

- Bloom’s default Mod output makes patching up dub-step style LFOs a breeze!
- Use the Mod Tune Mode to edit the output, or hold the Tune Mode button while on this page and press Reseed for a dice-rolled output!
- Performance Mutate also provides some varia-tion to our wubby melody!
Bản vá lỗi Example: Canons

- Save channel 1 pattern
- Load pattern to channel 2
- Rotate channel 2 to desired delay
Discover unseen harmonies within your sequence using this classic musical technique!
- Make sure to add rests at the end of the sequence for the second melody to play out, and feel free to add performative flare with the knob modes!
- If you have the voices, you can do the same thing to channel three for a three-part canon!
